New Year New You! 5 Resolutions You Can Actually Keep

You know the feeling; January 1st comes around and you're all gungho about making it the best year yet! You're going to work out, eat healthy, shove your greatest vice out the door, and maybe even learn a new hobby. But, by the end of the month, it starts to get a bit overwhelming. The gym is too crowded, the Snicker's bar in your glove box is all too tempting, and you decide to give up on your resolutions altogether.

New Years resolutions don't have to be big or daunting. The best way to making positive change in your life and really stick with it, is to start small! Here are 5 resolutions that you can actually keep, and that will make you feel fantastic inside and out.

1. Drink more water

According to Medical Daily, 75% of Americans suffer from chronic dehydration! Water is essential in keeping our skin elastic and it is a natural detoxifier. If you're having trouble getting in the recommended 8 cups a day, try drinking at least one glass when you wake up, with every meal, and before bed. Plus, carrying a reusable water bottle can help you get in the habit of staying hydrated when you're out and about.

2. Exercise when it feels right

Exercising doesn't have to be a chore. When setting a goal of exercising 5 days a week, you se yourself up for failure. Even if you go to the gym 4 times (which is awesome!!), you could still feel down that the goal wasn't reached. Instead of playing the numbers game, tell yourself that you will work out when you can, and be proud of yourself for taking the initiative when you do so! You'll find that when exercise isn't a chore, you may actually start to enjoy it!

3. Fuel your body

The phrase you are what you eat is actually kind of true. Whole foods like fruit & vegetables give us energy, focus, and aid in digestion. Life can get busy, but you should always make time for yourself. Your mental health will thank you.

5. Prioritize sleep

When school or work gets busy, we often find ourselves staying up late and sleeping less. Listen to your body and sleep when you're tired, because when you get a good night's sleep, you have more energy and concentration to get things done the next day! (If you tend to have trouble falling asleep, try turning off electronics 30 minutes prior to when you want to go to bed, because the light from your phone and tv is signaling to your brain that it needs to stay active!)

**And remember, when it comes to resolutions, it's ok to make mistakes. Forgive yourself and just do better the next day. You've got this! ♡
